6 Sites to Make Money Online From Writing
Having been an online content producer for some time now, I’ve found myself lucky to stumble across what I consider some of the better sites for online writers. In most instances, before you begin work with an online content site, it’s a good idea to conduct your due diligence. Read some reviews by those who have used the site, look for reports of problems with payments or service, and consider testing the site with an article or two before committing any real work to it. Here are a few of the sites that I’ve had contact with and some of what I’ve learned and liked about each site.
1. Associated Content – If you are a talented SEO (Search Engine Optimized) content producer, Associated Content can bring in some decent paydays. While their upfront payments aren’t exactly enticing, often ranging in the $2-$5 range, if you know how to produce good SEO material, you can make additional income based upon page views. This means that while a three-dollar article might not seem worth the effort at first, if the topic and keyword density are good, you could supplement that amount each month, making much more money in page views than the article ever paid upfront.
2. Helium – I was a web content virgin when I started working with Helium.com. A friend recommended it as a good site to make a little cash and get some writing experience. From page view residuals, to contests and writing articles for publishers, Helium offers a variety of ways to make money. While you can pick up some decent money by writing articles for publishers, be aware that you are in direct competition with those who are writing to the same topic, so your work will need to be on topic and well written. The downside to this is that if your article is not selected to be purchased by the publisher, there is little reward, as your article will then be banished to the page view vault were it will sit, possibly making you a dollar or two throughout the course of the year if you are lucky. Your material will also be ranked by peers on the site, something that must be done by Helium members to maintain their ability to receive page view payments. Overall, Helium is a great site, but it can be a lot of work with little return if you aren’t chosen by the publishing gods.
3. Textbroker – Textbroker.com was a lucky find I stumbled upon one day while reading an article about how to make money on the Internet. There is an application process by which your writing will be ranked to determine your skill level, as well as what type of articles you will be eligible to write (thereby determining how much you will be paid per word). The great thing about Textbroker is that you can write to a wide number of topics at various skill levels. While working, if you encounter a publisher who really likes your writing style, they can choose to send you orders directly.
4. ContentCurrent – With ContentCurrent.com, you have the ability to select either article writing jobs, forum posting jobs or both, which can offer some nice variety in your work. There is an application process for both types of work (article and forum posts) to ensure your work is of acceptable quality.
5. Bukisa – While you likely won’t get rich on Bukisa.com, it is good for a couple extra bucks a month if you’re willing to take the time to post your articles there. While it doesn’t seem to carry the readership of some of the larger sites like Associated Content or Helium, it is a viable option for writers looking to get established on the web and dip their toe in the online content production waters. There are no upfront payments for content, just page view residuals.
6. WriterAccess – With WriterAccess.com, you can create a profile including writing samples, a resume, and other pertinent information regarding your writing background. The site will ask for information regarding your writing experience as well as a writing sample in the application process. If you are accepted as a writer, WriterAccess offers the ability to apply for projects on their job board. While there are often a limited number of jobs to choose from, there can be some good money to be made if you are selected for a particular job.
GOOGLE SNIPER REVIEW
This blog is primarily about how to increase our income in order to live out our dreams. Unfortunately for many folks, a substantial increase in income is going to be difficult (if not impossible) barring a major career change, and so it’s a good idea to look at ways outside of our nine to five jobs by which we can create additional streams of revenue. I have personally used the Internet to create a moderate amount of passive income, and have been looking to expand my efforts in order to pad my wallet further. This desire has lead me to try and experiment with many different systems and software products, and after many returns, so-so results, and disappointments I have finally found one that I like enough to recommend to my friends, fellow bloggers and to my devoted readers.
The software I am referring to is called Google Sniper, which works by teaching would be Internet marketers a simple and effective system they can follow in order to build small websites targeting certain keyword parameters and niches in order to turn a profit. The ninety five page Google Sniper manual provides step by step instructions on how to choose the right keywords and domains, SEO each website to insure maximum traffic, and how to generate sales by creating compelling content.
With Google Sniper, the sites you create will be of high quality and stand the test of time in search engines, earning you a relatively passive income that you can grow further by creating additional small websites. The manual and videos contained in the Google Sniper package are easy to understand and provide clear explanations on each step you need to follow in order to be successful as an Internet marketer. I recommend Google Sniper because I am making money from this system, and believe that anyone with a strong work ethic and commitment to making money on the Internet will be able to do so as well.
Now I will come right out and say that to be successful with the Google Sniper system requires hard work, and it’s certainly no “get rich quick” system. Like most things in life, if you are not willing to work hard at the Google Sniper system it is simply not going to work for you, so don’t bother buying it. However, if you do have some time and willpower to invest in increasing your income, then you can and will make money by creating small niche websites in the style that Google Sniper teaches – and you certainly don’t have to be any sort of technical guru to do so. I know the system works because I have purchased it, used it, and will continue to do so as I am pleased with the results it is helping me generate.
A major plus is that the cost of Google Sniper is only $77, which if you’ve ever dabbled in quality affiliate software you’ll know is considered inexpensive. When you go through the checkout process there are some additional offers that you can choose to purchase as well, however they are completely optional. Also, you are automatically enrolled in the Google Sniper Club which is free for thirty days, and $37 monthly if you choose not to cancel. There is a sixty day money back guarantee on Google Sniper itself, which in all honesty you won’t be asking for if you take the time to put some work into following the system.

How To Make Money Selling E-Books
Make no mistake – e-books are big business online. No matter what you search for there will be someone out there selling an e-book on it.
But the best thing about them is that they provide one of the most potentially lucrative businesses you could ever hope to start online. So long as you do your homework and don’t try and cut corners you can start making inroads into this business within days of deciding to get started. There is plenty to learn but none of it is beyond you – and even if you don’t think you’re up to the job there are plenty of people you can call on to help you.
If you’re thinking of selling e-books to make money online, your best bet is to write your own.
But why do that when there are plenty of affiliate e-books around that you can promote and earn a cut from?
The answer is simple. If you write and create your own e-book no one else will be selling anything quite like it. You’ve got a unique product that will draw attention since no one will have seen it before. As long as you do your research first, you could make a lot of money from one e-book alone.
So first thing’s first – how do you decide what to write an e-book about?
Think about what subjects are currently popular online. Making money will always be a great subject (look at this blog for example!) so anything that taps into this field which doesn’t cover the same ground as loads of other e-books could do well. Try and focus on a specific niche to get the best results; you could start by thinking about what you personally find interesting and see whether any of your hobbies might provide fertile ground to explore.
Once you’ve got some ideas see whether there are already any e-books doing well online on that subject. If there don’t seem to be any around you’ll need to dig a bit further to see if your subject is going to be popular enough to attract a lot of sales. A spot of keyword research and simply looking up related search terms on Google can help reveal the answer to this.
Okay – so let’s assume you now have an idea for an e-book you think will be popular. Next up you have to plan the contents and think of a great title. Titles are very important since they will give the potential buyer an idea of what to expect from the e-book itself. It needs to be specific and intriguing – and full of promise. Don’t worry if one doesn’t occur to you straightaway; quite often you will only think of it once the book is almost written.
The biggest problem when it comes to writing the book itself is staying on topic. It’s very easy to veer off course if you’re not careful, which is why having a pre-written outline to follow will keep you on track. If you plan this out before you begin writing you’ll find the whole process much easier to manage. If you don’t feel confident enough to write it yourself you can hire a ghostwriter to do it for you; there are plenty of sites online where you can hire a freelancer for a fixed fee that you decide on. This gives you complete control over the project.
Incidentally the word ‘e-book’ can be somewhat misleading for newbies to the business. An e-book can indeed be a hundred pages or more long, but it can also be no more than a dozen pages or so. The price for a shorter e-book will of course be lower, but it is still more than you might think given the length of the book itself.
Of course you need to think about more than just the e-book if you want to sell plenty of copies of it. You need to get the word out, and you need to have a great mini website to show it off. These mini websites are really single page sites which promote your e-book in a long sales letter. You would do well to spend as much time writing the sales letter as you did the e-book itself, since it has a very important job to do.
First off you need a stunning headline that will grab the attention. You need to really sell this to everyone who lands on your website so don’t be afraid to shout about the benefits of your e-book! You’ll notice I said benefits there and not features; that’s because the benefits will tell your readers what your book will do for them. That’s a very important point to understand since it could make the difference between getting a reasonable amount of sales and being buried under an avalanche of them!
Think about your price carefully too. Don’t be greedy – but at the same time don’t go too low either. You want to give an impression of quality. Do some research and see what similar titles in your subject area are selling for.
You can also sell more copies by offering bonuses along with the e-book itself. Could you write a number of special reports as well, each one a few pages long, which relate to the subject of your main book? Anything like this will encourage still more people to buy from you rather than going elsewhere for a similar title.
The ultimate goal for you should be to write a series of e-books which each have their own website to sell from. When you write each sales letter be sure to include plenty of keywords and phrases to attract a greater volume of search engine traffic to your site. Pick a good and relevant domain name too – it will help to draw in more people.
The hardest step is in writing that first e-book. Once you’ve got going and you’ve had some experience you’ll start writing them faster, picking better titles and subjects, and selling more copies as a result. Before you know it you’ll have a great business on your hands.

Hybrid Domain Flipping to Make Money Online
I want to introduce you to something I like to call “hybrid domain flipping” as an easy and effective way to make money online. Basically it combines domain flipping and site flipping into one easy money making method. This isn’t exactly a new or unknown method but there are plenty of people who don’t know about it and it does work, so I figured I would share it with you.
Here are the steps to take in order to make money from this method:
1) Buy a domain that already has existing PageRank (PR).
There are plenty of places to buy domains for cheap that already have PR so this step is not nearly as difficult as it may sound at first. A good place to find them quickly and very low cost is the digitalpoint forums domain sales section. But you can also get them at sitepoint, sedo, the domain name aftermarket, and many other places.
The important things are that it has valid PR and is either generic enough to be used with any type of content or is niche specific so you can just put that type of content on it. I also wouldn’t buy one that didn’t at least have a PR3 unless it was a perfect domain in every other way. This is because you can get them for relatively cheap and the higher the PR the more value it will have in the eyes of potential buyers.
2) Put a blog and some content up on the domain.
You need to put content up on the domain in the form of a static website or a blog. I recommend a blog because it will be easier to update and will be easier to sell. You will also be more likely to get a higher amount of money for a blog.
If the domain you bought is generic then do some research to figure out what niches are hot sellers right now and build the blog and content around that niche. All you have to do browse around flippa.com for a few minutes to figure that out. If the domain you bought is niche specific then you obviously will want to write content based on that particular niche.
I recommend writing at least 10 high quality posts or pages of content. Put some time and thought into the writing because it will help a lot when you flip it. You’ll probably need to do some quick research online to figure out what topics on the niche to write about.
3) Do some marketing.
Since you bought an aged domain with existing PR it should already have some backlinks and maybe even some traffic coming to it. You don’t want to spend much time or any money marketing it because the point of this is to flip it and make money with the least amount of effort as possible. However, it will only help if you do some marketing. You could do a run of bookmarking it on several social sites and submit a few articles to directories with links pointing to it. Both of those are free and can be done pretty quickly.
4) Flip for profit.
Now it’s time to flip it to make money. Head over to flippa.com or another site selling marketplace and put it up for auction. I recommend keeping it for a couple months before you do this though. But make sure you continue building them during that time so you always have some ready to flip after the initial waiting period is up.
Some people will call this site flipping and others will call it domain flipping, I don’t really consider it to be either one but more of a combination of the two. Whatever you want to call it just know that it’s a great way to make money without spending too much time or effort to do so.

Blogging to the Bank 3.0 Review
Blogging has been around for a few years now. Most people use blogs to record their thoughts and lives, while the select few use them as a free way to make a fortune. One guy who uses this to his advantage is Rob Benwell. In 2006 he dished the dirt on the tips and tricks to making a fortune using blogging. But as time passes the old systems become obsolete and new techniques are required. This is where his brand new, fresh off the press Blogging to the Bank 3.0 system comes into play.
For those who know who Rob Benwell is like me, you’ve probably made a killing using blogs.
For those who don’t, he’s the story:
Back in 2005 he was struggling to make any profit online, had dropped out of college and was getting deep into debt. He was trying all the techniques the gurus tell you and wasn’t getting anywhere fast. All of that went in the bin and he started using his own techniques and started making more and more money using simple blogs. In early 2006 he shared this with the world and had a great ebook called blogging to the bank. Tons of people got rich from using these techniques (including me). He then spoke at Online Marketing Legend Yanik Silver’s underground Seminar where he revealed even more of his underground strategies. Then July 2007 he released Blogging to the Bank 2.0 which showed users his new methods to creating online wealth using blogs. In total both versions have been read by over 50,000 people across the world.
But as I said earlier, the techniques used in these ebooks are now showing there age. Some of them are not even working in the slightest! This is where blogging to the bank 3.0 comes into play.
It’s full of great new techniques that work online right now! Everything’s explained in plain English with all the fluff cut out. I got hold of an advanced copy of the book for a much higher price than what it actually sells for and it has been worth every single cent! I got it in the afternoon and by the evening I was creating new profitable blogs. Within a couple of hours of them being active I had made a nice little profit.
Blogging To The Bank 3.0 teaches you Robs new step by step blueprint to creating highly profitable long term niche blogs using the newest optimization techniques. There’s even a section on advanced Search Engine Optimization. Most people think SEO is difficult but Rob explains this nice and simply so even the blogging newbie will understand it.
Blogging To The Bank 3.0 is a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to make easy money online.

10 Mistakes in Affiiliate Marketing
Although anyone can start an affiliate marketing business but not everyone can achieve success in affiliate marketing. What is the reason? Well, there are 10 of them, actually. There are 10 affiliate mistakes that deter people from succeeding in affiliate marketing business. To avoid all these mistakes, you first need to study them and understand them thoroughly.
1. Believing that visitors would only click on their affiliate links. Although the task of an affiliate is only restricted to pre-selling, pre-selling isn’t just limited to displaying the affiliate links. It also entails enticing visitors to click on them by listing out the benefits of the affiliate products, giving positive recommendations by writing reviews to encourage readers to check out the products.
2. Promoting too many affiliate programs at the same time. If an affiliate markets 8 affiliate programs at the same time, he or she will have 8 affiliate marketing campaigns to handle. Most probably, the affiliate will find difficult to manage all his campaigns and unable to concentrate on each one of his or her affiliate programs in this situation and ends up losing money.
You should begin with one affiliate program; choose a program that you are passionate about. Then put your best effort to market the product. Test different marketing strategies to see which one works best. Once you are making a steady commission with the product, then maybe you can look for second affiliate product to sell.
3. Believing that using a single method of marketing technique is sufficient. There are people actually think that submitting a few articles to article websites will generate the amount of traffic they expected. But this is wrong. Focusing only one marketing technique will limit the number of potential buyers you can send to your affiliate merchant’s website
4. Failing to improve the performance of your marketing campaign. Many affiliates tend to concern on checking their daily commission only and have no interest on studying and analyzing their marketing campaigns performance. When their campaigns don’t work as expected or don’t generate sales, they will fail to make corresponding adjustments because they don’t know which aspects of their campaigns need to be improved. It is essential to learn every aspect of our marketing strategies. Which marketing techniques are attracted most visitors? How many unique and returning visitors generated? How long do they stay in our website? Where they come from? These are the questions that could help us enhance the performance of our affiliate marketing business.
5. Promoting affiliate products that are lacking of demand. Some affiliate programs offer extremely high sale commission to their affiliate. But the products aren’t sellable and thus earning nothing.
6. Failing to find an affiliate program with a proven record of consumer satisfaction. The trustworthiness of a company relies on how people view it. If the affiliate program has established good relationships with their customers, then it has established a brand which is recognizable for its excellent service. You will find easier to pre-selling such an affiliate product.
7. Failing to keep abreast with the latest developments in the industry. There will come a time when the marketing knowledge we know would become obsolete, more so in the field of internet marketing where everything transpires at a rapid pace. You have to constantly update yourself with the newest trends, techniques and news in this field to always keep your competitive edge.
8. Failing to invest on knowledge. Knowledge likewise evolves and you have to evolve with it. Buy noteworthy eBooks, special reports and the likes… those which would teach you the latest tactics to help you conquer your field.
9. Resting on your laurels once a semblance of success is achieved. Success is not eternal. You have to sustain it. If you leave your business alone once it shows the promise of success, you’re just setting it up for failure.
10. Though that affiliate program can help you become rich fast. No, affiliate program isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme. You have to put in a lot of effort and time, and some capital before you can make money in affiliate marketing.

Tips On Choosing Your Forex Broker
Every FX traders (Newbie or Experienced) need to open an account with a Forex broker in order to start trading. So what exactly is a broker or brokerage house? To put it simply, a broker is a company that place your buys or sells orders according to your decisions. Brokers earn money by charging a commission or a fee for their services.
When you started to pick up trading or get in touch with trading FX. You may feel overwhelmed and jump the gun at the first brokerage house that was introduced to you. My advise is, don't be lazy and DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!
Deciding on which broker to choose, requires a little bit of research & effort on your part, but i can guarantee you that your time spent will give you the insights of the types of services offer by various brokers.
Is the Forex broker regulated?
When selecting a prospective broker, find out with which regulatory agencies it is registered with. The market is labeled as an "unregulated" market, and it basically is. Regulation is typically reactive, meaning only after you've been bamboozled out of your entire savings will something be done.
In the US, a brokerage house should be registered as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and a NFA member. The CFTC and NFA were made to protect the public against fraud, manipulation, and abusive trade practices.
You can do a check with CFTC registration and NFA membership status of a particular broker and check their disciplinary history by checking the NFA's Web site at http://www.nfa.futures.org/basicnet/
Look for those with clean regulatory records and Stay away from non-regulated firms!
In Singapore a brokerage house should be registered with Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) holding a Capital Markets Services License. You can also do a check at MAS's Web site http://www.mas.gov.sg/fi_directory/index.html
So guys, do your homework before taking the leap!!
Customer Service
As Forex is a 24-hour market, therefore a brokerage house with 24-hour support is a must! Do a check if they can be contacted by phone, email, chat..etc. Be sure to check the quality of their service before opening an account. You can contact their help desks, by phone, email or chat and see how quickly they respond to your needs. If they don't give you a prompt reply and a satisfactory answer to your questions, you might be wary of opening an account with them. Just be aware that sometimes pre-sales service might be better than post-sales service.
Online Trading Platform
With today's advance technology, most brokers allow you to trade and place your orders over the Internet easily. Get a feel of executing your trades on the trading platform and try out a demo account from a few brokers. Most trading platform should include:
1) Real-time currency exchange rate quotes,
2) Account summary showing your current account balance with realized and unrealized profit and loss, margin available, and any margin locked in open positions.
3) Either Web based (in Java), or a client-based program to be installed on your computer.
A Web based platform is hosted on your broker's web site. and you'll be able to log in from any computer that has an Internet connection.
A client-based platform which you need to install on your computer, will only allow you to trade on your own computer (unless you install the program on every computer you use ).
Usually, a client-based platform runs faster, but most programs are operating system specific. Most brokers offers their trading platform application to run on Microsoft Windows. If you are a Mac user, you won't be able to install the application and will have to use your broker's Web based trading platform.
You must also check if the broker's client-based platform is compatible to your version of Microsoft Windows.
Always open a demo account and test out the broker's platform before opening a real account! If you are not comfortable with the broker's platform, go to the next one!
Bells and Whistles
A Forex broker should offer you real-time quotes and allow you to quickly enter and exit the market. These are minimal requirements of any trading platform. Most brokers now offer integrated charting and technical analysis packages with their trading platforms.
Mini & Micro Accounts
Most US brokers offer "mini-accounts" and even smaller "micro-account" for as little as a couple hundred dollars. In Singapore there are only a couple of brokers offering "mini-accounts"; IG markets, Saxo Banks & CMC Markets.
Broker Policies
1) A prospective broker should at least offer : the seven major currencies (AUD, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, JPY, and USD).
2) Rollover charges or Interest charges are determined by the difference between the interest rate of the country of the base currency and the interest rates of the other country. The greater the interest rate differential between the two currencies in the currency pair, the greater the rollover charge will be. Example; when trading EUR/USD, if the EURO dollar has the greater interest differential with the U.S. dollar, then the rollover charge for holding EURO positions would be the most expensive. On the other hand, if the Japanese Yen were to have the smallest interest differential to the U.S. dollar, then overnight charges for USD/JPY would be the least expensive of the currency pairs.
3) Most brokers pay interest on a trader's margin account. The interest rates normally fluctuate with the prevailing national rates. If you decide to take an extended break from trading, the money in your margin account will be accruing interest. Keep in mind that most brokers DO NOT allow you to accrue interest unless your margin requirement is at least 2% (50:1).
4) Nearly all brokers align their hours of operation to coincide with the hours of operation of the global Forex market: 5:00 pm EST Sunday through 4:00 pm EST Friday. Choosing the right broker is an important part of your trading journey. It requires some real effort on your part. Don't just jump in the first one that looks good to you or being introduced to you. Keep looking and trying different demo accounts.

Forex Trading 'Must Do': Instant Guide For Forex Beginners
It is believe that more than 50% of Forex traders are losing money long term in the foreign currency exchange market. Yet, there are still a lot of Forex traders jump in to the market, trade blindly and lost their money. Trade after trade, its surprising to see that 'normally-losing' traders keep betting (not investing!) their money into Forex market without reviewing their trading strategy. No matter you are the experienced or the beginners, there are certain 'must-do' when trading Forex to manage the risk wisely and to increase your possibilities in making profits.
Forex traders must-do 1: Invest in your brain first
If you are serious about investing in Forex market, building up your trading skills and knowledge is the very first step that you must take. Seminars, workshops, video tutorials, online learning, or even books are handful to help us learn from the professional. Learn to implement technical charting into your trades; learn using indicators to determine the right time to enter/exit the market; brush up your experience by trading with a demo account… all these are effective to ensure your smooth starts and it will definitely reduce your chances of losing money.
Forex traders must-do 2: Getting the right trading system
It is wise to research very well and consider all the various brokers' system available to you before making your choice. By applying certain level of computer automations (such like charting and doing auto trades), trading; a well-designed trading system will reduce your work dramatically. This in turns give you more time to focus on studying the market and plotting your strategy. Also, using auto-trading system will avoid you from doing emotional-trades.
Forex traders must-do 3: Have a trading plan
As the old says: “Fail to plan is plan to fail”. Trading is like sailing boat middle in the sea; you will not be going anywhere without compass and navigator. What is the detail objective of the trades? How much profit to expect from the trade? When to get into the market? How much to invest? What price to exit the market? If things do not work out, when do execute the stop loss order? How high is the affordable risk? A good trading plan should at least answers the above questions. Further more, if your trading plan fails, review and modify your trading plan. Find out your mistakes and learn from them.
Forex traders must-do 4: Money management
Money management is controlling your risk through the use of protective stops, while balancing your potential for profit against your potential for loss. For example, good money management means you know your profit objective and the odds of being right or wrong, and controlling your risk with protective stops. You are better off with a trade where you might lose $1000 if you are wrong and make $500 if you are right, that would work eight times out of ten, than to take a trade where you would make $1000 if you are right and lose only $500 if you are wrong, but works only one time out of three. If you are investing using your savings, it's even more important that you manage your money in your trading and in your personal expenses. Chances are high that you miss a good investing chance because of you are lack of capital.
Forex traders must-do 5: Discipline trading
Trading Forex with discipline is important. Success in Forex trading could not be achieved by plotting out the best trading plan. It is also depends on implementing the trading plan. Be discipline, trade according to your plan and never trade with your emotion no matter you are losing money or winning. Greed will stop you from taking profit at predetermined level; while fear will stop you from making the nice kill in the market.
Without a doubt, Forex is gaining its popularity fast against other kind of trading. No limited market access, no liquidity issues-after market hours, zero commission fees, low capital requirements with high leverage rates, and no restrictions on short selling -- Forex can be very beneficial. Always remember to plan your investment wisely by investing first on yourself; you shall get your reward at the end of the road.

What Most “Get Rich Quick” Scams Have in Common
Let’s face it, there are thousands of get rich quick schemes all around the web. When you are searching for something money related, you might see an ad for supposedly, “Google’s Work at Home Kit” or “Google’s Get Paid to Post Links” scams. And if you didn’t already know, it is all really bogus information. Google is not in anyway affiliated with these companies, they are just a few bogus fellows trying to make the quickest buck behind the scenes by accumulating people in masses to join their cult. It may sound tempting of course to be earning $283 in the few days of your first week of receiving their so called “kit,” but let’s face it, that is just not realistic. Why won’t Google do something about these get rich quick scams? You can read more about the Google get rich quick scam case at ReadWriteWeb.
So what do most get rich quick scams have in common and what are the best methods to avoiding a scam just like the Google scams?
Pyramid Schemes: Multilevel Marketing
If you don’t already know what a pyramid scheme is, it is in simple words, a scheme that involves layers of people doing the bidding while the top simply benefits from the rest. You might recall a certain incident with this scheme historically like with the Ponzi scheme and the Webster v. Omnitrition Int’l, Inc. case. Simply why in most states don’t permit pyramid schemes is simply because it an all around a scam. Not only does pyramid schemes deflate the economy, it impacts many individuals as well. It gives individuals the sense of false hope to later be told that their money is gone from individuals from the top tier people. Almost every scam revolves around the incentive of just recruiting another and follows a periodic pattern like of a pyramid – reason why it is called the pyramid scheme. Nowadays, it is hard to recognize a pyramid scheme, however, if you ever fall victim to being involved, be wary of what you are spending your money for. In Google’s money kit scam, although their get rich quick scam does not typically follow the essential layer by layer pyramid scheme, it does however, follow a two tier pyramid scheme that segregates the victims from the scam artists. Typically how the scam artists benefit from this scam is that they make victims, which could have possibly been you, think that a measly $1.95 is no biggy. Now you may think that is not much and why the scam artists would even consider being in his state of position just to steal $1.95, but remember, I’m talking about masses. Now multiply $1.95 with the X amount of people who have fell victim in the scam. I’ve even heard stories that the scam artists sometimes charge the victims $30 monthly because they have access to your credit card information. Pyramid schemes can come from all shapes and forms so knowing what a pyramid scheme is a must to protect yourself even if you think you may know better. You’d be surprised at how many people fall into the sense of hope of being able to make $283 the next day even though they know the scam is a downright lie.
Why scams work the way they do
The best way to avoid a get rich quick scam or any scam in general is knowing when it will strike. Most scams strike people who are apparently going through emotional difficulties financially. Strike when people believe into this one system that can change their lives financially and fall into false promises. The moment you believe into a system that will make you $283 on the first day of receiving the so called “kit,” is the moment you are a victim of the top tier people. How the pyramid system operates, the top tier people strive from the lower tier people; without them, there is no system. Does this ring any bells from any of your history classes? An area where most pyramid schemes seem to be associated in, is with banks and the idea of investing into something that will later prove to be profitable. If you ever invested into something, you must have some sense of what you are investing in and in the Google money kit scam, they use the idea of shipping & handing as collateral to get a hold of your $1.95 and your credit card information. Like I said, scams may come in many shapes and forms and knowing what the scams are, is only half the battle. Whenever you are tempted in joining a cult or a system like this, use your common sense. If there was ever a solution that could make everyone $283 the first day, everyone would have jumped on it like there was no tomorrow.
A great way to avoid scams like these is to always check out online reviews. It is better to be too safe than to be the opposite. I think a reason why the Google scams have gone on for this long is because it is only $1.95. Would you prosecute someone for a measly $1.95? Exactly, think of all the expenses that would involve. Therefore this scam was a really well planned out get rich quick scam that the owner simply enjoyed with no fear of prosecution, until most recently by Google and Shoemoney.
For more fun facts about how consumers can avoid schemes like these, we recommend reading from the FTC.

BEWARE OF THE CASH4GOLD SCAM
While watching television, I recall watching certain commercial breaks on Cash4Gold. What surprised me at first was the idea of shipping valuable jewelry or possessions (that is of course made out of gold) to a stranger that will supposedly evaluate the worth of the shipped product. This concept sounded very strange to me so I did some thorough research. Scratch that. I googled “Cash4Gold” and I got all the information I needed to tell that the company and the whole process is actually a scam. I am aware that a lot of people are going through some tough economic losses and have been notified lately that there has been some inflation in gold selling. So, I thought I’d like to check up on the topic of gold selling with Cash4Gold.
The articles that has deliberately attacked the company is dated from 2009, about a year ago. Seeing that the commercials still appear on some TV channels, I assumed that the company had cleared their bad reputation and regained reputation as being the top leading gold buyers. Boy was I wrong. If you still look at the user reviews from Complaints Board that were most recently published, you will notice that nothing has changed if you were to read the first review. Seeing that their commercial still airs on some TV channels today to attract desperate people who are in need money, it is sickening to see a trend in inflation of gold trading because reading from the reviews, you can get better offers from your local pawn shop or on Ebay.
Some people who were caught in the scam said that for the most part if you got a check from them, you were already considered lucky because sometimes they claim that the item was never obtained before. And if you do get the check, it is usually 1/3 of the amount that your local pawn shop offers.
I even heard a story that someone was paid $0.01 for their jewelry and that the is also making bank with this idea (read about it on TechCrunch).
And also if you decide to try their service despite of what you have read, realize that the 10-14 day return if a customer is not satisfied with their payment, begins on day 1 when you order a kit to ship back to their company for evaluation.

INTRODUCTION TO WEBSITE MONETIZATION
Monetizing your website means creating profit from your local Internet marketing campaign. Here are 8 proven ways to ensure that your website makes you money "around the world and around the block."
When considering how you will make money with your website, be sure to use several of the resources available today to check and double check your calculations. Making money online takes work and can be harder than it looks!
Some traffic estimates are overstated, and there is a lot of misinformation as to how much people earn on the Internet. Do your homework. And take advantage of the links and financial resources here at NetLocal. These are all "best practices" vendors and are here for your benefit. And, as you define how you will make money online, don't get stuck on just one income model. It is better to have many streams of revenue rather than put all your eggs in one basket!
1. Service Sellers
If you are in a service business, the obvious way you monetize your website is by attracting new customers (clients, patients, ...) and rendering your services to them, for which they pay you a fee. Your website will work for you in this regard if you set it up correctly.
The key is to optimize your website around a single theme, and to target your home page and subsequent pages around regionalized keywords.
(NOTE: There are many service sellers who can market there services more globally. Website consultants, for example, do this. For the purposes of NetLocal , we will focus on small service providers whose customers come from a geographic area with a radius of thirty miles or less).
What is a "regionalized keyword?"
Let's say you are a dentist, and want to increase the number of patients coming to your office in Pasadena, California. You may already have a website with the URL of your office name (for example, www.wilson.com). What you would do is keep this name, but change your title, first keyword, description, heading, body content, and links, all to include your city and your service.
Therefore, you website's main "keyword" would be "pasadena dentist." (without the quotation marks)
Your website homepage title might then be Pasadena dentist Dr. Lawrence Wilson - Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry.
The first keyword in your META keyword description would be "pasadena dentist" (without quotes). And so on...
You get the idea. The point is that you target your local Internet marketing campaign by including your city (and possibly state), along with the service you provide.
You could then market yourself in other ways, around other phrases such as pasadena implant dentist, pasadena cosmetic dentist, etc. These would become other pages, or could be part of an Adwords campaign. (See our Adwords page)
What if you do not have a website yet? No problem. Go to NetworkSolutions www.networksolutions.com , or Nameboy www.nameboy.com and see if a good name is available. Don't register it yet!! - Just check to see if you can get, "www.pasadena-dentist.com" for example. Even though this does not have your business name, it is actually better than the one that has your office name in it.
So how do you know what service word to use, after your city? Easy.
The secret is to research which keyword (phrases) people are using to seek the service you provide, and to then organize your local Internet marketing campaign around these words.
A great resource for keyword research is Wordtracker www.wordtracker.com. This tool lets you search for the popularity of a keyword or phrase, and then - and ONLY then, choose it as the focus for your website.
Another tool that can help in this matter is Overture's Search Term Selection Tool. You can use it to see what phrases people are entering to find services like the ones you deliver. You can also use it to see how much potential traffic you can "buy."
And, there is also a handy ROI calculator there, to help you decide how much you can afford to pay per click, based on your conversion ratio and revenue per visitor.
Finally, explore other pages at NetLocal www.netlocal.com . Our website is dedicated to providing resources, links, information and services to help make your local Internet marketing campaign a success!
2. Products
If you are trying to sell a product online, then your goals are different than service sellers.
In a service business, you target by region. In the world of direct product sales, you target by product category AND region.
The optimization principles behind the two campaigns are similar. The only difference are that, in a product-based business, you can monetize your website by marketing to both local and global prospects.
Let's look at each of these situations in turn.
First, for those buyers who live in your geographic region (within thirty miles), you want to satify their searching by including your city, just as with the service sellers. So, you may wish to create a separate website, and name it "www.yourproduct-yourcity.com".
Then, simply follow all the rules for construction and optimization as per the service sellers see other pages at NetLocal www.netlocal.com .
Now for the "other" part. Since you can sell around the world, you want to create a website with all your products presented, and available for purchase, and use the keyword selection tools mentioned above (WordTracker, Overture) to find a niche that has enough traffic to be worth you while, but not too much competition.
You are free from some of the constraints that are present in local Internet marketing. But you have a new parameter - product targeting. Investigate, learn, dig and discover all you can about the ways of building traffic and optimization of your website. Then, give it a rip! The beauty of the Internet is that you can usually correct any mistakes you might make.
3. Affiliate Programs
A third way to monetize your efforts online is to join and promote affiliate programs.
This might seem like an easy thing to do, and it really is - in theory. The hard part is making it pay.
Basically, there are hundreds (probably thousands) of affiliate programs to choose from. And many thousands of other web marketers promoting them, just like you. So how do you monetize your website as an affiliate?
The first thing to do is to learn from the masters. I recommend the following sources to get you started.
* AffiliateMatch www.affiliatematch.com This website, owned by Chuck McCullough, is a very popular resource for those entering the affiliate arena. Chuck is a first-class guy, and provides lots of valuable information, links and suggestions in how to be successful with an affiliate campaign.
* AffiliateMistakes www.affiliatemistakes.com At this website - also owned by Chuck McCullough - you will find his e-book called Affiliate Mistakes, describing the 15 things NOT to do if you want to monetize your website though an affiliate program. You can download it for $37.00 US.
* AffiliateWorld www.affiliateworld.com At AffiliateWorld, you will be presented with a Top 10, Top 11-20, Elite Showcase, and Beginners Guide, among other things. I like the look and feel of the site, and the orientation toward articles and learning. They even have a "Voting Booth" that allows net surfers to rate various programs.
* WebWorker www.referralincome.com Similar to the websites above, WebWorker offers lots of links, recommendations, and tips to help you make your affiliate program a winner. This site also has quite a few "tools" for the experienced affiliate. And, a list of "affiliate services" to use if need be. Quite impressive!
* AffiliatePromote www.affiliatepromote.com I am including this website in the subject of local Internet marketing / website monetization because it show how creative people can get with the idea of using the web to make money.
What these guys offer is a way for YOU to be the affiliator, and get others to refer to your site for more traffic and profitability. Look into it. As the search engines continue to place value on link popularity in their ranking stragegies, the idea of creating an affiliate network linking IN to your site is very appealing.
Before I leave the subject of affiliates, I want to add that the use of an "affiliate program" is not the only way you can monetize your site with affiliate links. Another very successful way - and one Ken Evoy of SiteSell recommends - is to place "in context links" on your page, within the body copy of the page itself.
What this means is that the reader is able to click on a link that relates to the subject of the paragraph or page, and the link is embedded in the text. When the visitor "clicks through" to your merchant partner - and buys - you get paid.
All you have to do to make this work is establish the affiliate relationship in advance with the merchant partner. They will then send you the "a href" code specific to your account. You embed that code into the HTML of your page, and shazam! You have monetized the very information you are giving to your interested visitor.
And, quite often, the visitor is "pre-sold" on whatever you are writing about, so they arrive at the merchant site in a "ready-to-buy" state of mind. Very effective!
NOTE: If all that sounds like Greek to you, don't dispair. Send me an email at jburch12@msn.com. I will be glad to talk you through it.
4. SiteSell
You may be surprised to see that I give SiteSell a complete heading, all by itself.
The reason is that this company is so far ahead of the competition when it comes to the automation of the website design, optimization, promotion, tracking and monetization process, that I would be remiss if I didn't devote time to describe it here.
Basically, Ken Evoy, the President and Founder of SiteSell , is a local Internet marketing genius. What he has done is take almost all the stuff you will see on this entire website and automate it, so all you have to do is concentrate on content. SiteSell takes care of the rest!
To learn more, go to the SiteSell page on our website, or click here , and look into this fabulous company right now.
5. Google AdSense
Just recently, Google has launched AdSense . This program is new, and offers service and product site owners an additional way to monetize their internet presence.
What AdSense does is place context-relevant AdWord ads on your website, for visitors to see and click upon. They then pay you a portion of the cost per click that the advertiser pays for each and every click.
If you want to participate in this program, click here , and it will take you to their main AdSense page. You can find out even more by looking into our seperate page here at NetLocal on AdSense .
Also, at www.keyword-optimization-tools.com you will find a handy tool that lets you see what types of AdSense ads might run on your website.
6. GoogleCash
GoogleCash www.googlecash.com isn't really a way to make money from your existing website per se. The reason I am including it is because the site offers a nifty little e-book that shows you how to use Google AdWords to make money online.
Whether you do the GoogleCash thing, or just buy the book and learn about how it works, this will help you see how to monetize a web presence. And, if you do decide to invest in this system, you wil probably make enough money to make it well worth your while.
7. Newsletters
The production of a monthly or quarterly newsletter can be a really creative process. If you work at it, eventually you will get a subscription base.
From this, you can provide advertising space for others, and they will gladly pay you for the traffic.
Please see the Newsletter section of our website for more information. (Note, this page is still under construction...please allow a few more weeks).
In the mean time, you can find some useful resources at www.imakenews.com .
More on this soon...
8. E-books / Seminars
Sound crazy? Hold on a minute. What is the number one thing that people go to the Internet for? That's right - information.
So why not take what you are passionate about and either provide it as a downloadable e-book, or in a face-to-face seminar?
Here are a few resources to get your creative juices flowing.
* Ebooks Made Easy www.ebooks-made-easy.com
* Write Ebooks That Sell www.writeebooksthatsell.com
* E-book Edit Pro www.ebookedit.com
While all four of these programs will do the job, I want to say a few extra words about this last offering - E-Book Edit Pro .
This little gem has taken the process of writing an e-book to an entirely new level of simplicity and elegance. What you do is follow a step-by-step wizard, and - before you know it - you are ready to publish your e-book.
The list of features on this program will take you over 10 pages to print out! And it's cheap - just $87.97 US. And if you just can't part with that much money without knowing how cool this product is in advance, they will even let you download and try it for free!
Good luck with your website monetization! And don't forget to explore the other areas of our NetLocal website. As I stated on our homepage, it is definitely a "work in progress."

How To Choose The Right Affiliate Program and Affiliate Network
Many webmasters do have high quality websites but they are still unaware of how to make money online and how to choose the right affiliate program which will work with their website. A high quality website with original content, friendly user-interface, unique materials would definitely make a lot of money.
With that in mind, I have provided various tips regarding how to choose the right affiliate program for your website and how you would get yourself into it:
* Always choose those affiliate programs which matches with your website, like if you have a website regarding health niche, choose an affiliate program related to health and it may be like herbal products, ebooks etc. Don’t go for car insurance programs or any other kind of affiliate progams which are unrelated to your niche.
* Don’t go for peanuts. There are multiple affiliate networks which pays only 1%-5% commission on a sale and instead of them, hunt something huge as there are so many affiliate networks which pays a giant commission of 10%-75% on just a single sale.
* Two-tier affiliate programs would be another cute thing to earn extra income, this will enable yourself to earn and as well as others can make money too and you will get commission on their sales too.
* An affiliate program which have only 2-3 products in a niche is not going to let you make huge money so the best way is to join those affiliate networks which offers a line of products in various niche for you to choose the best product that converts for you pretty well.
* Join affiliate programs which provides quality support via an e-mail, live chat, telephone etc. Affiliate managers plays very important part here as your affiliate manager will guide you with pre-made tools, sales letters, promotional banners, top converting offers etc.
Always remember, the top affiliate programs will make a lot of money with you and they will provide enormous support to you as they look forward to working with you for life-time. Also, try joining multiple affiliate programs and rotate products time to time and check which offer converts the most.

FOREX SCALPING STRATEGY
Forex scalping is a trading style which looks to take profits on very small price changes, usually soon after a trade has been entered into and becomes profitable. It is a trading strategy that does not look to capture 50+ pip moves, rather it is more about watching the price action and getting in and out of trades for quick 5-15 pips which little by little add up.
This might sound risky however scalping can be quite a low risk strategy if performed correctly. As you are aiming to profit from a lot of small movements, the downside risk should be similarly kept to a very tight range. A strict exit strategy must be implemented because one large loss could eliminate the many small gains that you have worked to obtain. Needless to say, discipline to get out of bad trades and risk management is extremely important and if implemented properly, intra-day forex scalping strategies can be done at low risk.
Forex Scalping - The Problems
There is a problem with scalping however as most dealing desk brokers are aware of this practice and don’t look too kindly upon it. This is because if they allowed scalping of - in and out of a trade in seconds - they would go out of business. The reason for this is because they need time to use a dealing desk so if you are scalping (less than a minute) they dont have the time to deal your money. Basically you are just taking their money.
How Do Brokers Differentiate Scalping From Short Term Trading?
It is a very thin line between scalping and short term trading. Generally if you hold trades for a minute or less, you may have problems with brokers. They could warn you and then if you continue shut down your account. However, if you trade in minutes or more, most likely you will not have problems with dealing desk brokers. Non dealing desk (ECN) brokers allow scalping where you can hold a position for seconds however the minimum to open an account is higher. ($2,000 and above).
Forex Scalping Strategy
Obviously, it's possible to make money scalping the forex – if not the brokers wouldn’t care so much. However, to be successful, you really must know what you are doing (especially in terms of having a strict risk strategy). You will also need to find a scalping system where you stay in positions long enough not to break the brokers rules while at the same time stay within your own risk tolerance parameters.
We recommend the forex scalping method of Watts Trading Group because it fits the above criteria as well as the following:
- The rules of the system are outlined very clearly. Both entry and exit.
- The scalping technique is simple and easy to follow.
- Strict risk and money management rules are defined.
- Ongoing support is provided through a Live Trading Room and traders are given free audio tools to learn how to get the edge on the psychological aspects of the trading game.
In essence, the forex scalping strategy of Watts Trading Group is a defensive trading method based on risk management. You will be learning to take small profits and discovering risk management techniques to win more consistantly and frequently. Excellent psychological tools are included as well - you will be extremely surprised at just how useful these things will be in your future trading.

Introduction to Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
If you think META tags still rule, you need to read this manual
Some not so honest webmaster that came before you in the 1990s used META tag spamming and other web page manipulation techniques to get higher rankings. The search engines got the message loud and clear, and answered back with a set of algorithm changes that are still evolving today. The Meta tags were slowly phased out as reliable ways to determine the relevancy of a web page by the major search engines by the late 1990s. Currently, the META description tags only real value is for website owners to succinctly describe their sites in the search results. It no longer has any ranking relevance at all.
So now the search engines have the upper hand, and dishonest webmaster have a much harder time manipulating the search results. Of course there are still a lot of people out there who can game the search engines for at least a few weeks or months until their sites are penalized by the engines. At that point, they simply register a new domain and start over with a new link farm, blog spamming, or a new hot off the press "black hat" SEO technique the search engines haven't discovered yet.
Avoiding the bad apples of SEO
We hope you are here because you want your website to do well on the search engines for a long time and not just for a day or two. The search engines continue to challenge even seasoned SEO professionals, but by no means is search engine optimization an "elite" skill only a handful of people in the world can master. Although a lot of Internet marketers are pushing some new secret formulas for gaming the search engines, the fact is there are none if you want to ensure your site's long term success. In every market we can find snake oil sales men who are peddling the next miracle cure to your problems, and the Internet marketing world is no exception.
The sales pitch is always the same. They say you are missing a key ingredient in your web promotion campaign and only they know what it is. Or they flaunt in front of you affiliate checks or Clickbank earnings reports to convince you they know the next big SEO secret that helped them earn a pile of money. Did you ever notice, there is also a sense of urgency in these offers. If you don't buy their e-book or spam generator gizmo today you are going to miss the boat.
SEO is not a secret, but a discipline that can be learned by anyone with patience and practice. Yes, that includes even you.
How can I master SEO?
*
Dedicate sufficient time to learn the fundamentals of SEO and search engine guidelines. If you don't have the budget to hire a SEO to do the work for you, you will need to have a fair amount of time on your hands to understand the most basic SEO techniques. This manual could take only a few hours to read, but we guarantee it will take a few weeks to really sink in even after a few re-reads.
*
Master keyword research techniques. Imagine if you were the owner of a retail store on a busy street, and your store didn't have a sign. You would probably get a lot of people who come into your store just out of curiosity, but would they find what they are looking for? Most likely not. It's the same with the search engines and keywords. If you optimize your site for the wrong keywords, you will get a lot of lookers and no buyers.
*
Understand web design and HTML at a very basic level and learn a WYSIWYG HTML editor such as Dreamweaver. If you can't make changes to your web pages and upload them, there is no chance of improving its relevance through keyword optimization. You don't need to have complete control over the website, as you may work with a template based CMS (Content Management System), but you need to be able to make modifications to the Title tags, META description and the body content. If you have a web designer who makes the changes for you, that's perfectly fine as well.
*
Learn to write and inject keywords into web content and HTML elements. You don't need to be an expert writer to create well optimized keyword rich content. As long as you understand you potential visitors' needs and wants, writing search engine optimized web copy can be learned by anyone. The important thing to remember is to always write for your web audience first, and then tweak your copy to incorporate your target keywords.
*
Dedicate enough time to grow their website content by a few pages a week. Most small business websites stop expanding their web content after 45 pages, which also include some not so relevant pages like privacy policies, contact us page, etc. Websites with more relevant informational pages do better on the search engines. So commit to writing at least one new page per week on a topic that answers some common questions your visitors may have. Begin with "how to tips, "top 10 lists, and "did you know articles" to start your creative juices flowing.
*
Grasp the concepts of links and execute a link building plan. If you were a hiring manager for a large company, would you hire someone without checking their references? The references provide some tangible way to validate the candidate's skills. Links are the equivalent to references on the web. The search engines use links as validation of another website's value and quality on a specific search topic. The more "citations" the search engines find from reputable websites linking to another site, the higher they rank them. It's important to develop a sharp "eye" for valuable links from the beginning that can push your site past your competitors.
*
Remain patient even in the face of sudden ranking drops and continue to learn more about SEO each day. Overreacting to ranking changes and undoing all the previous work is the single most reason new webmasters fail at SEO. If your site is only a few months old, you need to give yourself and your site at least a year to attain reasonable ranking. As long as you follow the safe optimization and "white hat SEO" link building techniques we describe in the following chapters, any ranking fluctuation will be only temporary and there is no reason to change course. Educate yourself daily by subscribing to SEO blog feeds, read SEO forum posts and expert articles. You can find some of the most popular SEO resources at the bottom of this page.
What's so secretive about search engines?
"SEO"
"Keywords"
"SERP"
"Page Rank"
"Back Links"
What do all these terms mean? Well, that depends on when you first realized your website needs search engine traffic in order to attract visitors to grow your business. The terms above are common knowledge to most webmasters who have at least visited a few top search engine marketing portals, SEO forums, or read at least one e-book on SEO. If you are unfamiliar with these terms, don't despair. We understand the confusion about the search engine optimization process, and we are here to guide you with an easy to follow road map.
Search engines are still very much misunderstood by most webmasters because the search engines don't publish the exact methods they use to rank websites.
If you are serious about your website's visibility, you owe it to yourself to learn as much as you can about the most effective and safe methods to get top ranking on Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. What you have to realize is search engines actually need your website for their survival and profitability.
The commercial aspect of the Internet has created an entirely different set of problems for the search engines. Search engines existed long before Google came along in libraries, research institutions, and government facilities. In those early days, the document retrieval process consisted of mainly looking at the content of the documents without any external influences and links. The Internet explosion has single-handedly created the race to invent the "smartest" search engine that is able to find the "diamonds in the rough. The diamonds being the truly valuable web content that is relevant to user queries, and the rough being the junky low quality deceptive web pages that try to mislead the search engines. Organizing the billions of web pages and its content into meaningful, relevant well sorted search results is an immense task even for Google.
Think of search engines as the editorial watch dog of all content on the web. As chief editors, it's the search engines job to retrieve the most suitable web pages in response to a user query. The search engines make money by displaying ads next to the natural search results returned. This is why their search relevancy is the key to their survival. The more relevant the search results are, the more people will make them their favorite search tools. Since about 2001, Google has been doing a fantastic job at returning the most relevant results and has been rewarded with hoards of advertisers bidding on keywords making them a pile of money year after year. In order to keep their search results relevant, the search engines have to ensure there is a level playing field among websites. They do this by frequently tweaking their algorithms to find bad apples that don't play by the rules.
This short tutorial will try to take you through the necessary steps to build a site the search engines will love and reward you with high ranking(s). And finally, this tutorial would not be complete if we also didn't warn you about the inherent risks of trying to trick or game the search engines with different spamming techniques to get ahead of the pack.
The paid keyword advertising alternatives
The natural search results are ranked by the search engine's algorithm while others are simply paid advertisements from companies willing to buy their way to the top using pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. When performing a search for almost any conceivable keyword on Google, Yahoo! or MSN, you'll likely see a set of results labeled as Sponsored Links or Sponsor Results.
The pros and cons of PPC
Long gone are the days of ranking well for competitive keyword phrases within weeks of putting a site online. As a matter of fact, new sites can rarely rank well within their first year of existence. This is where the pay-per-click advertising alternatives comes to the rescue. As long as you have a valid credit card handy you can start getting visitors to your site immediately once you sign up with Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, or MSN AdCenter pay-per-click advertising. The greatest benefit of PPC is the immediate traffic you get to your site, but the downside is the on-going cost of bidding on keywords month after month.
Who uses Pay-Per-Click advertising?
*
Advertisers who are either not ready to commit a budget or time for improving their natural search engine ranking. Small and mid size business often face a dilemma when it comes to SEO. Hiring a SEO company, or doing in-house SEO both require financial resources and time commitment. In most cases small e-commerce companies choose the easier PPC route at first, but often they quickly realize without proper investment in the advice of a pay-per-click specialist and conversion tracking tools they can loose a lot of money very quickly.
*
High profile companies who's websites can't be optimized using traditional SEO techniques. Corporate websites are often an untouchable property for SEOs. Key executives rarely give the go ahead to redesign a corporate website to achieve higher search engine ranking. In these cases PPC is the only way to gain visibility on the search engines.
*
PPC advertisers who want to be in the top results for thousands of keywords. These companies view the cost of PPC as any other off-line promotion method and hey usually heavily invested in visitor analytic tools to accurately report their break even points and profitability for every keyword they bid on.
*
Webmasters who want to test the performance of keywords quickly so they can build an expanded keyword list for organic ranking. Smart webmasters know that to properly test a keyword's relevance and suitability can be quickly achieved with PPC. It takes only a few minutes to setup a pay-per-click campaign with thousands of keywords and with the use of the free Google Analytics it can take less than a few days to find the best performing keywords.
*
Advertisers who have a recognizable brand names, but want to have their ads on top of the search results, when other competitors are also allowed to bid on their brand name keywords. A perfect example of this is the airline industry. Online travel agencies are regularly bidding on airline company brand keywords such as "american arilines", "soutwest" etc.
It's not uncommon to hear of advertisers who spend tens of thousands of dollars on a monthly basis for immediate visibility on Google. Also many advertisers have new websites that are either too young to rank well or may have been penalized for spammy SEO techniques. The point we are trying to make is, PPC is a great alternative to get your site in front of millions of search engine users quickly providing (1) you have allocated a monthly budget, (2) researched your keywords thoroughly, (3) and set up a proper visitor and conversion metrics reporting tool. We can't emphasize enough the need for visitor and conversion measurement tools prior to engaging in any PPC campaign. Google Analytics is great free choice for webmaster to track their keywords and conversions that can be tied back to their Google Adwords campaign keywords.
PPC can also come very handy to find suitable keywords for your site by testing a large number of keywords at once and measuring the conversion results closely. This process can help you weed out the poor performing keywords and find the true gems. The key is to set up proper visitor tracking prior to starting any large scale PPC campaigns.
What is the main advantage of search engine optimization?
One of the main advantages of high natural search ranking is your site can get visitors from the search engines 365 days a year without any cost to you other than your own hosting costs. It's like getting a full page add in the Yellow Pages under the category of your choice indefinitely. Do you know any better advertising alternatives that are completely free?
We don't, that's why we think you should follow this guide closely and refer back to it as often as you like during the optimization of your website. Although getting free visitor traffic from the search engines is a very cost effective way to drive targeted traffic to your site, it's not without a steep learning curve. The complexity and difficulty of learning SEO can be directly traced back to the search engines themselves. How is that so, you may wonder? The search engines are in the difficult position of trying to reveal as little as possible about the inner workings of their technology to the public, yet they need webmasters like you and me to provide them with the website's that provide the search result in response to the millions of search queries.
Why your website doesn't already rank well?
If your site had been online for a few days only, we can assure you, you are asking for the moon. Longevity on the web is gold, and the search engines reward websites that have a few years under their belts. It's not to say your website has no chance of ranking well if it's only a few months old, but older websites have the staying power many younger competitors just can't match, especially on Google.
Beside the age factor, we could list at least a dozen or more search engine ranking factors that your website probably hasn't incorporated into its pages. There are also a number of other external influences (hint: links) that are in your "SEO blind spot" right now. We promise that by following our SEO guide you will be well equipped to uncover the secrets to your own website's ranking.
Is your website's focus global or local?
There is a huge difference in time and effort needed to climb to the top of the search results, and it all depends on the keyword phrases you want your visitors to find you by. Attaining top ranking on the search engines depends on the competitiveness of the keyword terms you are targeting. Meaning, the fewer web pages competing for the same terms the higher your chances are of succeeding.
Let's say you are the webmaster of a small local real estate firm in Ajax, Ontario Canada with a population of about 80,000. Your job would be fairly simple and straightforward to get a top ranking for "ajax real estate" or "homes in ajax. In this case, the webmaster could probably get a top ranking just by creating unique title tags for the website with the keywords in the title tag and "sprinkle" the same keywords in the body text. The home page title tag for our real estate site in Ajax could look something like this,Ajax Ontario Real Estate Agent : Ajax Home Realtors.
On the other hand if you wanted to rank in New York or Los Angeles for real estate related terms, your chances of succeeding would be severely tested. You may already know the reason why. That's right, a bigger population means more real estate offices with websites that have the same keyword terms somewhere on their web pages. The end results is a bigger optimization and link building effort, and most likely more time needed to get the same results as our friendly Ajax realtors. Since there are many more sites competing for the New York and Los Angeles real estate terms, naturally the New York or Los Angeles based real estate webmasters would have to go beyond title tag optimization. They would have to do some serious content writing, optimization, and link building to get a number one ranking.
However, this should not discourage you because the search engines rankings are not written in stone, and even the number one website can be unseated with persistent effort and patience.
Website owners who sell products or distribute their content worldwide are in a tougher situation when it comes to SEO. It's easy to see why. Once we remove the local geographical terms and do a search for "real estate" only, we are presented with over 370 million results from Google: Results 1 10 of about 370,000,000 for real estate. Unless the keyword phrase is fairly unique, competing globally for popular keywords terms will take more time and careful link building. In some cases, it can take as much as one year of search engine optimization to achieve a top 10 ranking for a very popular term.
Your website's age and the Google "Sandbox"
You may not know this, but how long your website's has been online is a key factor in how much work it will take to achieve a decent search engine ranking. We are not talking about the domain's original registration date, but the actual time elapsed between the site's going online and now. The longer the site has been online without any significant down time the better. Sites under the one year mark will have a very difficult time, especially on Google due to factors which even Google doesn't disclose publicly. There is overwhelming evidence a new site needs to be online for a minimum of six moths to one year before it can reach top 10 results for even moderately competitive keyword terms. This artificially imposed ranking ceiling on new websites is referred to as the Google "Sandbox" in SEO.
The Google "Sandbox" is a phenomenon that was first observed in 2003 and ever since we can see evidence of new sites with commercial focus competing for highly popular keyword phrases are ranked artificially low for a period of between 6-12 month depending on the market segment and specific keywords. The theory behind the Google "Sandbox" is Google's attempt to control newly build spam websites and link farms from rising to the top of the search results in a short amount of time. Unfortunately Google never openly acknowledged the existence of such a filter or algorithm, so we have no official confirmation from Google, but we can assure you it does exists.
The only sites we have seen escaping the Google "Sandbox" are educational or government domains, or subdomains of well established older websites. Another group of sites that may escape the "Sandbox" is sites targeting low competition keyword phrases with local geographical focus. For example a new site that competes for the keyword phrase "toronto handyman", or "toronto carpenter" may be able to rise to the top of the results in less than 4 months. On the other hand a new site targeting the keyword phrase "las vegas real estate" will face the same Google "Sandbox" just like other commercially focused sites in popular niches and may take over a year to achieve reasonable results.
Achieving high natural search engine ranking is dependent on two main factors
Here is some good news; search engine rankings are dependent on two main factors; on-page optimization and off-page optimization.
*
On-page optimization can be described as the tweaking and tuning of web pages and the website as a whole to achieve a unified keyword theme and an easy to navigate structure. On-page factors can be improved by incorporating keywords into the title tags, body content, and internal navigational links. The actual content of the site falls into the on-page optimization category, and although the on-page factors may contribute less to the overall ranking score, the content will make or break the off-page factors since high quality content will always attract more external links.
*
Off-page ranking factors are commonly known as link popularity which means, how many links are pointing to your site. While optimizing your web pages is an important step, today's modern search engine algorithms mostly rely on external ranking factors such inbound links pointing to a website. These external links are counted as votes for your websites popularity and quality. You can improve your websites link popularity by acquiring relevant high quality links from many different sources. Some of these source include links from blogs, reciprocal link partners, one-way links, e-zine article links, directory links, government, or trade associations links. Links from press releases or industry news articles are also excellent sources of links.
The search engines recently started to count links in their ranking algorithms community driven sites such as Technorati, YouTube, Delicious, Stumble Upon and Bloglines. Links from these social websites are given a fair amount of weight because the personal preference of users participating in a particular community is a good indication of a site's value which simply can't be determined by a computer based algorithm. The term often used to describe the propagation of news about a site's value on social websites is called Viral Marketing. Viral marketing is the new traffic generation source for webmasters and we'll be covering it in the Web 2.0 Link Building and Viral Marketing lesson. We'll be revealing all the ins and outs of getting your site in front of thousands of social site users in a very short amount of time.
The search engines are also extremely good at figuring out relatedness between websites. This means when all other factors are equal the quality of links wins over the quantity of links.
In the step-by-step lessons following this introduction, we will reveal how your website can achieve high search engine ranking with the right balance of on and off-page optimization techniques and viral marketing.
What is the secret to getting high ranking in 2010?
Every year search engine algorithms evolve and change. In some cases, there is a noticeable change in the ranking order of even well established sites. As SEOs we have to adapt to what the search engines are looking for in site optimization and link popularity metrics. The problem is, the search engines don't publish a new checklist at the beginning of the year to tell us what to watch out for in the upcoming year. It would be very nice, but don't hold your breath.
Short of a precise list of search engine ranking factors, we have to keep on going back to the top 1020 results on Google, Yahoo!, and MSN to gain some insights into how those sites got there. We look for any fluctuations in the search results for target phrases. We also look at the sites' layout, keyword placement, link popularity, and a slew of other factors. In some cases, there are no changes in the ranking results for months, and than all of a sudden we may see some new websites reaching the top 10 results. When there is a massive number of changes in the top ranking results, it's a clear sign of algorithm changes.
So what are the ranking "secrets" for 2010?
*
Old well established domains still dominate the top results. If you don't already own a domain that has been online for a few years you can always find one. You would be amazed how many people are willing to sell their 4-5 year old domains for next to nothing. But don't go to domain brokers to find good deals on old domains. You need to do your own research the old fashioned way. Page through the search results using your target keywords starting at the 4th or 5th page or maybe even higher. Install the SEO Firefox extension and enable the website's age information. When you find a site that is at least two years old and the information looks a little dated, look up the contact info and send an email to make an offer.
*
Links from topically relevant high Google PageRank sites can give a huge boost to your sites' ranking. These are types of links Google don't want you to buy, but in reality without putting some money down you will very rarely get a PR 7 or 8 link without some serious cash changing hands. Let's face it, if your site brand new and commercial in nature, nobody will do you a favor and give you something for nothing. You have to get used to the idea that you either need cash or time and talent to build links to your site.
*
Link exchanges, article and directory submissions are not the silver bullet to building links. . Just like all link building techniques, once they become main stream they lose their effectiveness. If the search engines find 80% to 90% of your inbound links are coming from exchanged links, or article and directory submissions sites, their conclusion about your site is simple: you are manufacturing links in order to rank higher because your site has no value to offer. Your site needs some other sources of inbound links, whether it is editorial links from your peers in your industry or links to a great new tool you have put on your site. The bottom line is one-way inbound links from relevant sites wins the day.
*
Social media is gaining ground, so you better be sociable too. A link from Bloglines, Technorati, Delicious, Blogpulse, IceRocket or Stumble Upon is the web community's way of saying your site is worth checking out. In recent years the search engines started to rely on the collective opinion of social community websites to supplement and aid the relevancy of their machine based search algorithms. This trend will most likely continue and gain even more momentum in the up coming years.
